March 24: Maundy Thursday Dinner and Tenebrae Communion Service At West Hebron UPC 6:00 p.m. Potluck Supper 7:00 p.m. Tenebrae Service with Communion All are invited.
In the portion of the service called theTENEBRAE (meaning “shadows”), we follow Jesus and his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. We hear him asking them to stand by as he enters more and more deeply into the lonely darkness. As the danger grows, their fears grow. One by one they leave him. During the reading of the account of Christ's arrest and passion, twelve candles will be extinguished, symbolizing the flight of the twelve disciples. The central candle remaining symbolizes Christ. When this candle is removed from the chancel, the total darkness of the church symbolizes his entrance into death. Its return signifies his victory over all enemies, even the last enemy, death. Christ lives and shines as the light of the world!
**Caution- very young children might be frightened by the darkness.
Saturday March 26 2:00pm Be on Time the hunt goes quickly! Community Easter Egg Hunt and a visit from the Bunny! Over 1000 eggs hidden inside and out. While holding on to the sacredness of Lent, we know, as Easter people, that soon the tomb will be empty and that joy will replace our sorrow! So we celebrate a bit early with child like joy with our annual egg hunt. Truly, when done with our hearts and minds firmly focused on our Savior, we can co-exist; the sacred and secular! Children should bring a bag or basket.
